had to have it

I simply could not leave yesterday's Renegade Craft Fair without buying this sweet cross stitch piece made just that morning by Kimberly Scola. I love it so much.

overnight

I have such a hankering to go camping. This urge overcomes me every summer and I'm sad to say I haven't been in years. Not since I packed up and moved across the country to LA, sleeping in tents in Oklahoma, Arizona and who knows where else. I want to get out there under the stars with good friends and that incredible campfire smell. Oh and the s'mores! Oh the s'mores.

the scoop

Yesterday was national ice cream day and though I'm sad to say I didn't have any (I plan to remedy that here next weekend), this seemed like the perfect time to reflect on my most favorite treat. Some of the best:

Molly Moon's in Seattle has the best salted caramel I've had and J.P. Licks in Boston kept me happy in college with a killer mint chocolate chip.

Back here in LA, Scoops does a brown bread ice cream that may sound weird, but I promise you is worth taking a chance on and Milk on Beverly is the sundae mecca.

Now go and get thee to a creamery!

PS does gelato count? It should, because the goat's milk gelato from Bulgarini is ridiculously delicious.

the parting glass

I
went to the Hollywood Bowl tonight to see The Swell Season and was blown away. I was first introduced to them when I was given the DVD of "Once" by someone who told me it made them think of me. After an an intense passionate set, including a beautiful cover of "Into The Mystic", they ended their show by singing this lovely old Irish song. Good night and joy be with you all.

The Parting Glass

Of all the money e'er I had,
I spent it in good company.
And all the harm I've ever done,
Alas! it was to none but me.
And all I've done for want of wit
To mem'ry now I can't recall
So fill to me the parting glass
Good night and joy be with you all

Oh, all the comrades e'er I had,
They're sorry for my going away,
And all the sweethearts e'er I had,
They'd wish me one more day to stay,
But since it falls unto my lot,
That I should rise and you should not,
I gently rise and softly call,
Good night and joy be with you all.

If I had money enough to spend,
And leisure time to sit awhile,
There is a fair maid in this town,
That sorely has my heart beguiled.
Her rosy cheeks and ruby lips,
I own she has my heart in thrall,
Then fill to me the parting glass,
Good night and joy be with you all.

better late than never

Finally it's getting hot and feeling like summer here in LA. This year our June gloom lasted well in July. I'm already dreaming of the weekend and some hot fun in the summertime.

sailing away

Or rather speedboating away. Off to spend a day on the open water. Happy day off!

catalog living

This blog chronicling the lives of the people that live in our catalogs made me laugh out loud more than once. Is it wrong that I completely recognize most of these rooms?

Everything in its place…

Hi Nancy, it’s Elaine. I’m going to be a little late for lunch. I can’t find my hat or my back-up hat.
